Facts on Athletes and Eating

1. You can get this disorder if you don’t eat what’s healthy for your body. You’ll eventually run your body down to no energy. There’s an estimate that there are ten million females and one million males in the United States that have eating disorder.

2. This disorder can only run through the family if they choose it as well.

3. College students are found more highly with this disorder about 1,445 athletes and 9 percent of the female athletes need treatment for an eating disorder and another 58 percent were at high risk for developing disordered eating behaviors. For males in the same study, 1 percent had eating disorders and 38 percent were at high risk for developing eating disorders.



4. It’s hard to prevent this disorder once you already have your mind set to doing it. It happens when kids don’t think they have the right body for the sport or don’t look like how they picture themselves to be.

5. A cure for this disorder would have to be getting your self to eat again or just dropping out of the sport because of the risk it can do to your body.

6. Athletes live with it because they love the sport and they like to impress others and its what they want to do but eventually it will hurt there body to so bad that they can’t be in the sport anymore.

7. All people would think differently depending on the type of person if it was your coach he’d probably encourage you do to keep doing what you are doing but they want you to be healthy about what you do. If it was a friend and they were concerned about the disorder they’d probably try to get you to stop.

8. You can’t really control once your addicted you just don’t eat just so you can be better tan everyone else.

9. It can both, its shown that girls have a higher percent than guys.

10. It happens to mostly college kids who are not around there family so they hide it from them.

11. If you keep not feeding your self and not doing what’s right for your body you will live with it unless you decide to go back to yourself.

12. Personally wise you probably won’t act the same as you do if you had all the nutrition in your body.

13. This disorder is so you can participate and the reason why they develop it so they can be the best.

14. It affects your school work because you don’t have much on your mind but the sport that you’re doing and wanting food.

15. They don’t eat much food. They either eat then throw it back up later or don’t at all.

16. It reacts by becoming thinner and losing muscle and energy.

17. It’ll make you think in a whole different way.

18. They try too function on there own. Even though they do lose a lot of energy since there not getting a lot of nutrition into there body.

19. Yes you can lose your life and people have before a ranked female gymnast, a young ballet company member and a college wrestler die from illnesses and injuries that began with disordered approaches to food and exercise. This illness has the highest death rank.

20. Symptoms of the disorder are when you feel very sick to your stomach and you lose a lot of energy because you don’t have enough food in your system.
